In Resume Do's and Donts, Part I, I covered the technical aspects of writing resumes. In this section, Im going review Content, including resume formats, what information is important, what should never be included, bullet points, honesty, and style.
Truly highlight what you offer, dont hijack other peoples qualities. Use care in choosing words that reflect your professionalism and background. Sprinkling in words that dont define who you are will make your resume suspect. As an example, many jobseekers use the word "loyal" in their resume, but a quick read of the resume reveals they held three jobs in the last five years.
When you're writing your resume always read it back to yourself and work out exactly how you would feel if you were an employer reading about the candidate in front of you. Sometimes the hobbies and interests section can mean the difference between you as a candidate blending in with the other fifty candidates, or standing out as someone who has done something interesting. Even if the employer doesn't think that on paper you're quite right for the job, if your hobbies section lets them know you've recently climbed Everest, they might just be intrigued enough to want to talk to you!How to Make a Resume for First Job
