You wouldn't want your resume writer just giving out your personal details to prospective new clients. You should be tolerant of the fact that professional ethics and confidentiality agreements will prevent resume writers from giving you the actual names of past clients. In fact, you may want to be wary of writers who DO offer up names of past clients! But, the top professionals will have gathered testimonial letters from past clients that they should be happy to provide to you on an anonymous basis. You could also check LinkedIn. Ask to connect with the writer and then review their references on LinkedIn. If a writer claims to have no references it should be a red flag!
One way you can do this is by going over old performance reviews. Some employers may offer you a copy and others may not. Attempt to get a copy from the Human Resources Department, if you dont already have one. You may have forgotten about an achievement that meant big changes or improvements for the company.
The resume is a document that has tremendous potential and should be presented in an extremely articulate manner. Your skills, achievements, awards and numbers need to be highlighted. It is the first step in selling your self to the employer.
