Every European resume we receive has a picture attached, sometimes right on the resume itself. European hiring managers making their first foray into U.S. hiring have asked us before about the lack of pictures on American resumes. This question hasn't been from ignorance: they grasp the concept of U.S. hiring discrimination laws. However the rest of the world prefers a picture because, frankly, it saves time.
Many people contend that they can cut costs by writing their own resume. It's only a piece of paper after all! Then they spend week after week, month after month in a unproductive job search, hardly ever getting an invitation for an interview. In the end, their thriftiness costs them a great deal of money, even more time, many lost opportunities, and more stress than it was all worth.
7. Too vague. Be as specific as possible when describing achievements. Percentages, revenues, and concrete results help the hiring manager to see the breadth and width of your capabilities and stretch beyond your job scope.
