That is: the resume does not have a compelling opening. It doesn't matter whether you call it a career statement, career objective or value proposition, if you don't have a strong opening statement you've lost out on a prime opportunity to grab the readers attention and propel her through your resume.
Companies often hire people who are a known entity. They are friends of someone in the company, or have worked with someone in the past. This is where the saying comes from, "who you know matters more that what you know"
The reason for this is that whenever you submit your email electronically, there is a big chance that your formatting will get improperly transmitted or delivered, and this can easily lead to instantly disqualifying you. It has been estimated that as many as 75% of all resumes never even get seen because of improper formatting!
From the hiring perspective , the purpose of a resume is to screen out unqualified candidates and to screen in a select few who have persuasively shown in the resume exactly how they would add more value to the company than the other candidates. Writing an excellent resume means that you must know how get the attention of hiring managers and others who have a say about who is hired. To get your resume noticed , you have to know what hiring authorities want to see. In virtually all cases, the resume that will generate the most positive response is the resume filled with past accomplishments that show how the candidate has produced results for past employers, saving money , making money, increasing efficiency, and solving problems. Why does this generate results? By implication, a candidate who has consistently and repeatedly produced benefits and strong results in the past will continue to do so in the future. Writing an accomplishment-focused resume such as described here ensures that you clearly understand the employers' needs and have crafted the resume to address these needs rather than some self-serving interest.
